Grade 5 – Week 25 (Day 116-120)

Day 116 –

Have you gotten dressed, brushed your hair, brushed your teeth, and cleaned your room?

Independent Work:

Math – Log into Khan Academy and do one lesson and one Mastery Challenge

Reading –
1. Read chapter 1 of The Wind in the Willows. Before you start reading, look at questions 1-5 on the sheet so you can be looking for the answers while you read.

2. Answer questions 1-5 from the Question Paper.

Writing –
1. You finished your first draft of your paper last week and now it is time to Edit. Editing is when we look over our work and make sure there’s no mistakes and that it is as good as it can be. Here is a fun song about Editing.

2. Get out your Editing Checklist and slowly and carefully read over your introduction and your first paragraph. Correct any mistakes you find and then read it again out loud to make sure it flows nicely. Fix any sentences that don’t sound quite right. You can erase and rewrite or you can write below or above it with a red pencil.

Vocabulary – Complete lesson WITW 1-1 HERE

Science – Read pg 252-253 in your Science textbook. Answer the Quick check in your Science notebook.

Music – Do the “Basics” in the music lab. If it doesn’t come up, click on “Music Lab” on the left and then on “Basics”.

German –
1. Watch Felix und Franzi Im Briefkasten

2. Watch German with Jenny 10. After you are done, fill in as many answers as you can on the Worksheet. Don’t worry if you don’t know some answers because you will watch this episode again tomorrow.

3. Listen to this book The Flying Elephant


History – Story of the World pg155-158. (If you remind mom to read this at dinner time you get an extra treat!)

CHORE OF THE DAY: In this section I will start listing a chore of the day. If you choose to help with this chore, you earn a Nintendo Reward for the day. Today's chore is vacuuming Quenny's room and the Girls' room.

Grammar –
1. Here’s a simple activity to remember some of the different prepositions.

2. Do you remember that prepositions come in phrases?  Next to the door is a prepositional phrase. NEXT is the preposition. DOOR is the object of the preposition.

3. Here’s an easy quiz about prepositions and the object of a preposition.

German –

Reading –
1. Read chapter 3 of The Wind in the Willows. Before you start reading, look at questions 11-17 on the sheet so you can be looking for the answers while you read.

2. Answer questions 11-17 from the Question Paper.

Writing – Now that you have done some of your own editing, have your brother look over your paper and you look over his. Give him your Editing Checklist and have him slowly go over your intro and first paragraph while you do the same for his paper. Make corrections or suggestions on a piece of paper or with a blue colored pencil above or below the sentence on his paper.

Science – Read pg 256-257 in your Science textbook. Answer the Quick check in your Science notebook.

Art –
1. Writings from the middle ages were often done with a flourish! They were called “illuminated manuscripts.” Fancy pictures were added in gold or silver. Beginning letters were written with color and drawings. 

2. Take a look at some and then write the first letter of your name in this style. It doesn’t have to be as intricate as some of these. Do your best. Write the letter and then color it, draw around it. Make it your special letter!

German –

2. Watch German with Jenny 10. After you are done, fill in any answers you left blank yesterday on the Worksheet. Meet Mommy for German Tea Time after the little kids are in bed and bring your worksheet.



History – Story of the World pg158-161. (If you remind mom to read this at dinner time you get an extra treat!)

CHORE OF THE DAY: Collect all the garbages from the little garbages (there are 9, can you find them all?). Take out garbage and recycling.

Day 119 –

Reading –
1. Read chapter 4 of The Wind in the Willows. Before you start reading, look at questions 18-22 on the sheet so you can be looking for the answers while you read.

2. Answer questions 18-22 from the Question Paper.

Writing – Give your brother your Editing Checklist again and have him slowly go over your second and third paragraph and conclusion while you look over his. Make corrections or suggestions on a piece of paper or with a blue colored pencil above or below the sentence on his paper. Most importantly, tell him the two things you liked best about his paper.

Science – Read pg 258 in your Science textbook. Answer the Quick check in your Science notebook.

Thinking – Pick a thinking game from Levels 4-6.

Grammar –

Reading – Answer questions 23-24 from the Question Paper. When you are done with your day, read for fun.

Writing – Look over any corrections or suggestions that your brother made and make any changes that still need to be made. When you think it’s how you want it, give it to an adult to edit.

Vocabulary – Complete lesson WITW 1-5 HERE

Science – Read the Visual Summary on pg 259 and answer questions 1-5 in your Science notebook.  

PE/Health – Read about the Dangers of Alcohol. Tell an adult three reasons not to drink alcohol.

German –

2. Watch German with Jenny 12. After you are done, fill in any answers you left blank yesterday on the Worksheet. Meet Mommy for German Tea Time after the little kids are in bed and bring your worksheet.
