Grade 5 - Week 2 (Day 6-10)

Day 6-

Math- Log into Kahn Academy and do 20 minutes of Grade 5.

Reading -

1. Read Chapter 5 of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

2. Longfellow has many famous poems, but one of the most famous is called Paul Revere’s Ride. Do you remember that Paul Revere is one of the men who rode to warn the American minute men that the British troops were planning on attacking? Two lanterns were hung in a church tower to let everyone know from where the British were going to attack.

3. Watch this video of Longfellow reading his poem.

Writing- Answer 6 questions from the Sorcerer's Stone Chp 5-8 Questions.

Vocabulary- Do HPSS2-1

Science- Do the lab exercise on Pg. 30-31 in your Science textbook

Music-

1. One of the earliest man-made instruments must have been some sort of drum.

2. Play the drums. Click on play and use your keyboard.

1. Sing along to the Hallo song and the Wie Geht's song.

2. Watch the Visitors From Germany video

3. Felix is very excited that his friends at Zoo Berlin are coming to visit. Felix and Franzi want you to learn the names of the animals. Can you do that? (Ja!)

4. Some German animals make different noises to the noises animals make in England. These are some new words. Say them each three times:

Wer ist das? - Who’s that?

Das ist der/die/das - That’s

viele - lots of

die Kuh macht - The cow goes (muh much)

Kühe - Cows

der Hund - the dog (wau wau)

Hunde - dogs

die Katze - the cat (miau mias)

Katzen - cats

5. Watch the Wie Geht's video and sing the Auf Wiedersehen song.

6. Go say, "Who's that?" to your brother. Go say, "That's the cow," to your sister. Go say, "That's the dog," to Mommy and tell her what dogs say in Germany.

History- Listen to Story of the World pg66-72


Day 7-

Math- Log into Kahn Academy and do 20 minutes of Grade 5.

Reading - Read Chapter 6 of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

Writing- Answer 6 questions from the Sorcerer's Stone Chp 5-8 Questions.

Vocabulary- Do HPSS2-2

Grammar- Play this Parts of Speech game. Uncheck prepositions.

Science- Read Pg 34-35 in your Science textbook and write the answer to the quick check in your science notebook

German-

1. Sing along to the Hallo song and the Wie Geht's song.

2. Watch the Visitors From Germany video

3. Here are some more new words. Practice saying them each 3 times:

die Biene - the bee (summ, summ)

die Bienen - the bees

das Krokodil - the crocodile (schnapp, schnapp)

die Krokodile - the crocodiles

das Pferd - the horse (hü-ü-ü)

Day 8-

Reading - Read Chapter 7 of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

Writing- Answer 6 questions from the Sorcerer's Stone Chp 5-8 Questions.

Vocabulary- Do HPSS2-3

Science- Read Pg 36-37 in your Science textbook and write the answer to the quick check in your science notebook

Art- Find some twigs and leaves outside. Use them to make a cave painting on a piece of paper. Paint something that you could have seen long, long ago (no cars or planes or computers).

German-

1. Sing the Wie Geht's song and the Onkel Fritz song

2. Watch the Visitors From Germany video

3. Here are some more new words. Practice saying them each 3 times:

laut - loud or loudly

leise - soft or softly

schnell - fast or quickly

langsam - slow or slowly

tanzen - to dance

stop! - stop

4. Felix and Franzi's friends are leaving to go back to Zoo Berlin today so they want to have a party before they go. When Mommy says, "Tanzen," start dancing. Then listen for the German word when she tells you how to dance (slow, fast, loud...)

5. Watch the Wie Geht's video and sing the Auf Wiedersehen song.

History- Listen to Story of the World pg73-75

Day 9-

Math- Log into Kahn Academy and do 20 minutes of Grade 5.

Reading - Read Chapter 8 of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

Writing- Answer 6 questions from the Sorcerer's Stone Chp 5-8 Questions.

Vocabulary- Do HPSS2-4

Grammar-

1. Play this Adverb game.

2. Play Word Invasion. (Uncheck prepositions)

Science- Read Pg 38-39 in your Science textbook and write the answer to the quick check in your science notebook

Thinking- Play a game from Levels 4-6.

4. Pick three animals and go tell Mommy their names and what they say in Germany. Go tell your brother, "I am loud," and go tell your sister, "I am fast."

Day 10-
Math- Log into Kahn Academy and do 20 minutes of Grade 5.

Reading -

1. Read along with this video of another famous Longfellow poem.

2. Now watch at least a couple of minutes of this video. It is the cartoon version of the story. How is the cartoon Hiawatha in the beginning not like the Hiawatha described in the poem? Think about their relationship with the animals?

Writing- Describe the inside of Gringott's through Harry's eyes. Use at least 6 complete sentences.

Vocabulary- Do HPSS2-5

Science-

1. Read Pg 40 in your Science textbook and write the answer to the quick check in your science notebook.

2. Read the Visual Summary on Pg 41 in your Science textbook. Tell an adult the answers to questions 1-6 in Think, Talk, Write or write the answer in your science notebook.

German-

1. Sing along to the Hallo song and the Wie Geht's song.

4. Sing the Onkel Fritz song

5. Here are the words to a new song about bees. This is a long song but at first we will just sing the part about the bees buzzing. Practice saying, "Summ, summ, summ, Bienchen summ herum."

6. Listen to the Bienchen Summ Herum song and see if you can sing the part you practiced.

History- Take the Story of the World quiz for Chapter 10.

PE/Health-

1. Watch How Sugar Affects the Body.

2. Watch How Sugar Affects the Immune System.
